The NYHS program is funded by Community Services under the Homeless Action Plan and was launched on 9 March 2010. Marist Youth Care continues to auspice this service.
 
This service is supported by NSW State Government Departments and homeless services to continue an integrated and collaborative service delivery system.
 
The NYHS Program provides brokerage and /or accommodation to young people with complex needs who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
 
The area that is covered are the local government area's of Penrith, Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains and Mt Druitt section of the Blacktown local government area.
 
The NYHS Program provides :
  • Ten placements for young people with high and complex needs.
  • Early intervention support packages to young people with low to medium support needs who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • Post Crisis Support case management support to young people transitioning to independent living (social, public or private housing) from supported accommodation.

Criteria

  • High Needs
    • young people 16-25 years who have a history of chronic homelessness, repeat users of crisis accommodation services and rough sleeping
    • willingness to engage with an allocated case worker.
  • Early Intervention support packages
    • Young people 12—18 yrs who have not engaged in supported accommodation and
    • at risk of homelessness, disengagement from family, school, education, training/employment.
  • Post Crisis Support
    • Young people aged 18—25 yrs who are exiting supported accommodation into independent living who have been assessed as demonstrating independent living skills and
    • willingness to engage with case management.
